Singapore car window tint: what to check

Sources reviewed (UTC)By Window Tint Laws

The takeaway

Check each window’s limits and compatibility with Singapore’s Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) toll system before fitting film.

This guide covers aftermarket film on ordinary Singapore-registered private cars. Import approval, replacement glass, visiting foreign vehicles and individual waivers need separate advice.

Window limits

The Ministry of Transport’s reply of 7 April 2026 gives these visible-light minimums:

  • Front windscreen and front side windows: 70% light transmission.
  • Rear windscreen and rear side windows: 25% light transmission.

Film must be non-reflective and preserve signals between ERP gantries and the In-Vehicle Unit or On-Board Unit. The reply describes existing requirements; its date is not a new tint limit’s start date.

Approval and testing

LTA lists compliant film installation among modifications that do not need its approval. It says modifications must be installed by qualified personnel following vehicle and product manufacturers’ recommendations.

LTA says you can have the vehicle tested at an authorised inspection centre. Check arrangements and charges directly before travelling.

Ask LTA about an unusual vehicle or unclear approval question. This guide does not resolve individual permissions.

Before you book

Ask what the result will be through each finished window, including existing glass. Keep the product and installation details, and ask how any concern would be resolved.

The linked guidance does not set out a test procedure for your particular installation. Ask LTA or an authorised inspection centre how the window will be assessed.
