Idaho distinguishes rear side windows from the rear windshield: the ordinary figures are 20% at the rear sides and 35% at the back window and front sides.

| Window | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Windshield | Nonreflective tint above the AS-1 line only; where no AS-1 line is identifiable, the statute provides a 6-inch top allowance. |
| Front side | At least 35% transmission and no more than 35% reflectance, each with a 3-percentage-point tolerance. |
| Rear side | At least 20% transmission and no more than 35% reflectance, each with a 3-percentage-point tolerance. |
| Rear window | At least 35% transmission and no more than 35% reflectance, each with a 3-percentage-point tolerance. |
Ordinary rules and factory equipment
The section calls for nonreflective material and separately provides a reflectance ceiling. Its ordinary aftermarket limits do not state a blanket SUV exemption. Federally lawful original or qualifying optional equipment has a separate protection.
Medical allowance
A driver or passenger with written verification from a licensed physician of a qualifying need to avoid sunlight or heat may use the specified medical allowance: 70% windshield and 20% other-window transmission, each with the stated 3-point tolerance, and the 35% reflectance ceiling. Carry the verification in the vehicle.
Avoid using tolerance as the target
Choose an installation intended to meet the stated limits before any testing tolerance is considered. The statute regulates both installation and driving. A film label alone does not prove that a particular vehicle complies.
Before you rely on this guide
This is general information, not legal advice, a vehicle inspection, or permission to install a particular film. Exceptions and enforcement procedures can depend on your circumstances.
- The definition here refers to the product or material rather than expressly saying combined glass and film. A separate official enforcement explanation resolving that measurement wording was not located; verify the installed result before purchase.
