Utah’s front-side standard is 35%, and the windshield standard is 70%. Rear windows have broader allowances, but mirror and appearance requirements still apply.

| Front side | At least 35% transmission, with the specified 5-point officer-metering variance. |
| Rear side | No numeric transmission floor for windows behind the operator; metallic or mirrored appearance remains prohibited. |
| Rear window | No numeric transmission floor; metallic or mirrored appearance remains prohibited. |
Measure the finished window
The law addresses how much light the window allows through. Have the installed glass checked rather than relying on the film label. Utah Highway Patrol’s current guidance uses the 35% front-side standard.
Mirrors and appearance
Except for the specified windshield-only placements, a vehicle with tint or nontransparent window material needs left and right outside rearview mirrors. Material presenting a metallic or mirrored appearance is prohibited on any window. Federal standards still apply to manufacturers, dealers, and other covered businesses.
Medical claims
The cited section and Highway Patrol summary do not provide a medical darker-tint permit. Do not assume that a physician’s note changes these limits.
